Carbon steel balls are an economical alternative to through-hardened precision balls. High carbon steel balls are through-hardened. They have a superior resistance to stress and wear. They have similar properties in hardness and precision to chrome steel balls but with a better price. So, they are often used as a replacement for chrome steel balls when users want a cheaper alternative.
